Alcohol detox explained

People have been asking me recently exactly how alcohol detox works.

The aim of detox is to rid the body of chemicals and residual toxins left over from drug or alcohol abuse.

Detoxification from drugs and alcohol is the first essential step in the treatment process. Recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism can only start once you have been detoxified.

Most detox programs will include an introduction to recovery principles. Drug detox is usually a short program and will normally last between 3 and 10 days. Some substances can stay in the system for longer than others.

Alcohol Detox can be a very difficult undertaking that may require medical supervision because when one abruptly discontinues using drugs and alcohol, patients may experience the onset of alcohol withdrawal and drug withdrawal symptoms.

We Do Recover prefers to send clients to a private psychiatric hospital specialized in addictions treatment for detox. We are able to secure a private room for our clients.
